FAQ's

Is it safe to get an x-ray if I'm pregnant?

Most dental treatment can be carried out safely during pregnancy. Emergency care should not be delayed. In general elective treatment is carried out in the second trimester when the patient is no longer feeling nauseous from the first trimester and can lay flat without risk of supine hypotension.

If radiographs are necessary for assessment or diagnosis of infection or trauma, concern about radiation exposure is not a reason to defer them.

What does the dentist use to clean my teeth?

Your dentist or oral health therapist may use an instrument that vibrates slightly and releases some water to remove calculus or tartar build up. We will also use a mint or tropical flavoured paste with fluoride to polish away any soft plaque and disrupt the bacteria formation on your teeth.

What do I do if I'm too scared to see the Dentist?

Book an appointment to come and meet us! Our friendly team would love to spend your first visit getting to know you and chatting about your concerns without doing any treatment until you're comfortable. Your comfort and trust is our number one priority.

My gums are bleeding, is this ok?

Bleeding gums indicate that they are inflamed, likely due to being due for a professional clean by us, or needing to improve your at home oral hygiene routine. Bleeding gums (also known as gingivitis) can lead to gum disease. Gum disease is when the bone underneath the gum can recede, therefore causing your teeth to lose their stability. Come and visit us so we can investigate your concerns.

I'm grinding my teeth when I sleep. Can you help?

Absolutely! There are a few different options to discuss with Dr Killmore to help protect your teeth if you are a night time grinder. Options may including fabricating an occlusal splint (night guard) that you wear whilst sleeping to prevent wear to your teeth while you're grinding.

At what age should I bring my child in for their first visit?

We recommend bringing your child in for a check up when their first tooth comes through to get them comfortable in the dental environment. Being exposed to sounds, smells and sites early on can help to set the foundation of a good relationship with us!
